Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the closing stages of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the championship lead from Piastri by a single point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in the championship fight, sitting with a 36-point deficit Norris, ended up in 17th position as his team followed a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he spun at Turn Four during the early running.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before spinning across the run-off area, and was blessed to avoid just a minor contact of the fence.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, rotating twice through the high-speed corner leading to the last turn on to the main straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619secs off Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
